Joshua Bassett was born in Oceanside, California, to Taylor and Laura Bassett. His early exposure to the performing arts began at age seven, with over thirty musical theatre productions and appearances in numerous commercials and short films. His five sisters are also involved in theatre. Beginning in 2017, Bassett accumulated episodic television roles, including appearances in ‘Lethal Weapon,’ ‘Game Shakers,’ and ‘Dirty John.’ His first significant role came in early 2018 as Aidan Peters in the third season of the Disney Channel series ‘Stuck in the Middle,’ which further developed his acting career.
At 17, Bassett secured his breakthrough role as Ricky Bowen in the Disney+ series ‘High School Musical: The Musical: The Series,’ which premiered in November 2019. His performance and the series garnered positive feedback, with critics noting his talent and musical ability. He performed on five soundtracks for the series, writing and producing four original songs, including ‘Just for a Moment’ and ‘The Perfect Gift.’ The series concluded in August 2023, and Bassett earned two Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards and a Children’s and Family Emmy Award for his contributions. In 2019, he also had a guest role in ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ as Linus, a recovering teenage drug addict.

He released his self-titled debut EP in March 2021, writing or co-producing five of its six tracks and playing six instruments. The EP explored themes of heartbreak, love, regret, and betrayal. In April 2022, he starred as Anthony in the Disney+ film ‘Better Nate Than Ever’ and provided the voice for Nick Daley in ‘Night at the Museum: Kahmunrah Rises Again.’ His debut album, ‘The Golden Years,’ was released in July 2024. Throughout his career, Bassett has consistently engaged in philanthropic activities, donating merchandise proceeds to mental health organizations like Bring Change to Mind and Teen Line, and supporting initiatives for mental health awareness. In 2022, he partnered with American Eagle for their ‘Member’s Always: Future Together’ campaign, which awarded grants to young community leaders.
