About

Josie Totah was born on August 5, 2001, in Sacramento, California. She began her acting career at a young age, appearing in an AwesomenessTV production in 2012. Her early work included a recurring role as Stuart Wooten in the Disney Channel series “Jessie” from 2013 to 2015, and a supporting role in the ABC comedy “Back in the Game” in 2013. In 2015, Totah joined the cast of Fox’s hit series “Glee” for its sixth and final season, playing Myron Muskovitz, a strong-armed prodigy. Her performance in the 2016 film “Other People” earned her critical recognition, with Variety naming her one of its Sundance Breakout Stars of the year. This period established her as an emerging talent in the industry.

Demonstrating her versatility, Totah appeared in Marvel Studios’ “Spider-Man: Homecoming” in 2017 as Seymour, and later starred alongside Adam Devine in Walt Disney Pictures’ “Magic Camp” in 2020. A significant career milestone occurred when she was cast as Lexi, a central character and producer, in the critically acclaimed reboot of “Saved by the Bell” for Peacock, which ran from 2020 to 2021. For this role, she received a Critic’s Choice Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, and the series received a GLAAD Media Award for Best Comedy Series in 2022. Totah is also a recurring voice actor, lending her voice to Natalie in the Netflix animated series “Big Mouth,” a role that contributed to an Emmy nomination for the episode “The New Me.” Her work in film continued with Amy Poehler’s “Moxie” in 2021 and she is slated for the upcoming feature film “Faces of Death.”

Beyond her acting achievements, Josie Totah has made notable contributions as a writer and producer. At age 15, she sold her first television pitch to Universal Television/NBC for the sitcom “AUNT NANCY.” She served as a producer on “Saved by the Bell” and continues to develop new projects. Totah is also an active LGBTQ+ advocate, openly coming out as a transgender woman in Time Magazine in August 2018. She regularly participates in panels discussing LGBTQ+ rights and inclusivity in media. Her advocacy efforts have been recognized with the Human Rights Campaign’s Visibility Award in 2018 and the Upstander Award in 2019. She serves as a celebrity ambassador for GLAAD and GLSEN, actively working to promote understanding and acceptance.
