Jung Jin-hwa

Jung Jin-hwa was born on May 25, 1989, in Ulsan, South Korea. He has dedicated his career to modern pentathlon, a multi-discipline sport that includes fencing, swimming, equestrian show jumping, and a combined event of pistol shooting and cross-country running. Jung began competing at a high level early in his career, participating in junior championships and establishing himself as a prominent athlete in the sport. His early career saw him compete in various World Cup events and World Youth and Junior Championships, frequently placing in the top ranks and demonstrating his emerging talent.

Jung Jin-hwa has achieved notable success throughout his career. He represented South Korea in multiple Olympic Games, including the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, where he finished eleventh in the men’s individual event, tying a record for the best South Korean performance in modern pentathlon at the Olympics. He continued his Olympic participation at the 2016 Games, securing a 13th-place finish, and improved to a 4th-place finish at the 2020 Summer Olympics. His performance at the 2020 Olympics highlighted his consistent dedication and competitive drive at the highest level of the sport.

Beyond the Olympics, Jung has accumulated numerous medals at the World Modern Pentathlon Championships and Asian Games. His achievements include multiple gold medals in relay and team events at the World Championships in 2012, 2015, 2016, 2019, and 2022, as well as an individual gold medal in 2017. He also earned a silver medal at the 2014 Asian Games in individual competition and a gold medal in the team event at the 2022 Asian Games. These results reflect his sustained performance across different facets of modern pentathlon.
