Karan Soni

Karan Soni was born on January 8, 1989, in New Delhi, India. He later moved to the United States and pursued higher education at the University of Southern California, initially studying business before transitioning to acting. His career in entertainment commenced with a film debut in Yusuf Sumer’s 2010 comedy, ‘Kaka Nirvana.’ In 2012, Soni marked his feature film debut in ‘Safety Not Guaranteed.’ His professional journey continued with lead roles in television series such as ‘Betas’ (2013) and ‘Other Space’ (2015), establishing his presence in the industry.

Soni gained prominence through his role as Dopinder, the taxi driver, in the highly successful ‘Deadpool’ film franchise, beginning in 2016 and reprised in its sequels, ‘Deadpool 2’ (2018) and ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ (2024). Concurrently, he appeared in significant films including ‘Ghostbusters’ (2016), ‘Office Christmas Party’ (2016), and ‘Pokémon Detective Pikachu’ (2019). His television work expanded with roles as a series regular on ‘Blunt Talk’ (2015–2016) and as a main cast member on the anthology comedy series ‘Miracle Workers’ (2019–2023).

A significant milestone in Soni’s voice acting career occurred in 2023 when he voiced Pavitr Prabhakar / Spider-Man India in ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,’ a role he is set to reprise in ‘Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse’ (2027). Beyond acting, Soni has also ventured into writing and directing. He co-wrote, starred in, and produced the Independent Spirit Award-winning feature ‘7 Days’ (2021) and has directed episodes for television series including HBO’s ‘Room 104’ and ABC’s ‘Abbott Elementary.’ His recent projects include a leading role in the romantic comedy ‘A Nice Indian Boy’ (2024) and the thriller film ‘Fade to Black.’ In 2025, he is also part of the ensemble cast for the Audible Original audio drama ‘Murder at the Patel Motel.’
