Kate Sheahan has transitioned from a professional tennis coach and AFLW player to a respected executive in women’s football. After being signed as a rookie player for Collingwood in 2016 for the inaugural AFL Women’s (AFLW) season, Kate Sheahan made her debut in Round 4, 2017. Prior to her AFLW career, Sheahan excelled as a professional tennis coach, serving as a Talent Development Coach and Victorian State Squad Assistant Coach for Tennis Victoria (2008-2010). She also held roles as a Tennis and Strength & Conditioning Coach for Bayside P-12 College (2009-2017) and was recognized as a Talent Development Coach for Tennis Australia from 2011.
In this capacity, she has been instrumental in the Richmond Football Club’s strategic efforts to secure, develop, and grow their AFLW team, navigating the complexities of establishing a high-performance program from its inception. Her leadership has been pivotal in solidifying Richmond’s presence in the competitive AFLW landscape. Concurrently with her executive roles, Sheahan established a notable presence in sports media, providing expert analysis and commentary. She served as an AFLW Commentator for FOX SPORTS Australia from 2017 to 2019, sharing her deep understanding of the game with a national audience.
