Lauren Conlin Adams is a comedian and actress based in New York City. She is known for her roles in TV series including Modern Family, Deadbeat and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. In the latter, Adams played Gretchen Chalker, a willing, overzealous cult member who believed everything she was told and struggled to adapt to life outside of the cult. Adams also appeared in an episode of The Break with Michelle Wolf called “Bad Opinions,” which mocked the New York Times op-ed section.
Adams was born in Washington, DC and raised in Potomac, Maryland. In 2004, she earned a BFA from Elon University in North Carolina. Since August 2007, Adams has studied with Bobby Moynihan, Lennon Parham, Zach Woods, Michael Delaney, Anthony King, and Chris Gethard at the Upright Citizens Brigade. She was a part of the former Maude Team Slow Burn and the former Harold Teams Johnny Romance and Sherlock & Cookies at UCB. Adams remains a member of the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre and performs on a regular basis.
Adams co-created and starred in the restaurant comedy Pig: A Restaurant, which played to packed houses in New York, Los Angeles, and Boston. She can be seen performing regularly in New York with the sketch group Onassis. Adams keeps up with her fans on Instagram, where she boasts over 8,000 followers. She has also made videos on the website Cameo to support the LA Food Bank during the Covid-19 pandemic.
