Kelly McCreary is an American actress famous for playing Dr Maggie Pierce in ABC’s medical drama Grey’s Anatomy, reprising the role in the spin-off series Station 19. She also lends her voice talent to Netflix animated series Harvey Street Kids playing one of the lead characters, Dot. In 2018, McCreary produced A Cohort of Guests, a short film which starred some of her Grey’s Anatomy and Station 19 co-stars.
Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, McCreary began her acting career in theatre, learning her trade in New York City’s Barnard College and the British American Drama Academy in London. She made her screen debut in Cyberchase, an animated series for PBS in 2005, and first appeared on Broadway in the 2008 musical Passing Strange.
In 2012 McCreary landed the part of Tyra Dupre on the CW series Emily Owens, M.D. alongside Mamie Gummer and Aja Naomi King , and further television roles soon followed in shows including Rubicon, Scandal and Castle, before she got her biggest break winning the part of Dr. Maggie Pierce, the half-sister of lead character Meredith Grey in the hugely popular ABC drama Grey’s Anatomy .
Alongside her ongoing role in Grey’s Anatomy since 2014, McCreary has also played the role of Eartha Kitt in the film Life opposite Robert Pattinson, and continues to cement her status as an accomplished stage actress, playing Esther Mills in a production of Intimate Apparel and appearing in A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Eurydice with the Williamstown Theatre Festival. Aside from her illustrious acting career, McCreary served as an ambassador for Michelle Obama’s When We All Vote campaign and became a member of the Equal Justice Society Board of Directors in 2015.
