Born in 1977 in Canada, Kelly Oxford began her professional journey by publishing an anonymous blog as a means of daily productivity after becoming a full-time stay-at-home mother in 2001. Her early career also included work as a waitress and in a shoe store. In 2009, she joined Twitter, where her unique voice quickly garnered a substantial following, including attention from celebrities such as Diablo Cody and Roger Ebert. This online success led to being contacted by various agents, marking a significant turning point in her career trajectory.
Oxford’s career progressed into the entertainment industry, where she sold a television script to CBS, with Jessica Alba attached as executive producer, based on her experiences as a mother. She subsequently sold another pilot script to NBC, though neither project was produced. In 2012, Oxford relocated to Los Angeles to further pursue her artistic endeavors. Her writing achievements include two New York Times bestsellers: “Everything Is Perfect When You’re a Liar,” published in 2013, and “When You Find Out the World is Against You: And Other Funny Memories About Awful Moments,” released in 2017.
She has also ventured into acting, with roles in films like “Sharknado 2: The Second One” (2014), “Aloha” (2015), and “The Disaster Artist” (2017). Her directorial debut, “Pink Skies Ahead,” for which she also wrote the screenplay, premiered at AFI Fest in October 2020. Her personal life, including a divorce in 2016 and diagnoses of OCD and ADHD in 2023, has influenced her candid writing and public persona. Oxford’s ability to transition from online personality to published author and filmmaker highlights her diverse talents.
