Kenny Anderson

Kenneth “Kenny” Anderson was born on October 9, 1970, in Queens, New York. His early life in LeFrak City, Queens, was marked by significant basketball talent, leading to him being recognized as a top prospect from a young age. He attended Archbishop Molloy High School in Queens, where he set a state scoring record with 2,621 points and achieved national recognition as a four-time Parade All-American. Anderson’s high school career also included being named a McDonald’s All-American, New York State Mr. Basketball, and Gatorade High School Basketball Player of the Year. He was considered the No. 1 player in the country.

Anderson continued his basketball career at Georgia Tech, playing two years as the starting point guard. During his freshman year in 1990, he led the team to the Final Four and was part of the “Lethal Weapon 3” trio. The following year, he averaged nearly 26 points per game before deciding to leave college early for the NBA. He was drafted as the second overall pick in the 1991 NBA Draft by the New Jersey Nets. His professional career spanned 14 years in the NBA, during which he became an All-Star in 1994, averaging career highs of 18.8 points and 9.6 assists per game in his third season.

Throughout his NBA tenure, Anderson played for several teams, including the New Jersey Nets, Charlotte Hornets, Portland Trail Blazers, Boston Celtics, Seattle SuperSonics, New Orleans Hornets, Indiana Pacers, Atlanta Hawks, and Los Angeles Clippers, before concluding his professional playing career with Žalgiris Kaunas in Lithuania in 2006. Post-retirement, Anderson transitioned into coaching, notably serving as the head coach for the Continental Basketball Association’s Atlanta Krunk in 2007, and later as the head basketball coach for Fisk University from 2018 to 2024. He also earned a degree in organizational leadership from St. Thomas University in 2010.
