Kevin Antonio Boss was born on January 11, 1984, in Corvallis, Oregon. He developed into a multi-sport athlete at Philomath High School, excelling in both football as a tight end and defensive end, and basketball, where he helped his team win a state title in 2002. His athletic prowess continued at Western Oregon University, where he balanced football and basketball. In his junior year, he was a first-team All-GNAC and All-Region tight end, starting all games with 39 receptions for 506 yards and five touchdowns. By 2005, he recorded a career-high 53 receptions for 621 yards and eight touchdowns, earning First-team All-American honors. Boss completed his college career with 134 receptions for 1,590 yards and 19 touchdowns, graduating with a degree in physical education and minor in business, with a 3.2 GPA.
Boss was selected by the New York Giants in the fifth round of the 2007 NFL Draft, marking him as only the second player ever drafted from Western Oregon. He made an immediate impact, notably stepping into a starting role for an injured Jeremy Shockey during his rookie season. His career highlights include winning Super Bowl XLII with the Giants against the undefeated New England Patriots, where he contributed a crucial 45-yard gain, the longest play from scrimmage in the game. Over his four seasons with the Giants, Boss accumulated 119 receptions for 1,600 yards and 18 touchdowns in 58 games. He then signed with the Oakland Raiders in 2011, playing 14 games, catching 28 passes for 368 yards and three touchdowns. His NFL career concluded with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2012, where he played two games before being placed on injured reserve due to concussion issues.
After his NFL career, Kevin Boss leveraged his experience to found Boss Sports Performance in Bend, Oregon, in 2014. This venture focuses on training athletes of all ages and levels, aiming to help them maximize their athletic potential. His transition reflects a commitment to athletic development and a continuation of his involvement in sports, moving from professional play to mentoring and coaching the next generation of athletes.
