He initiated his professional broadcasting journey covering games for the Indianapolis Checkers in the Central Hockey League and also provided commentary for basketball games at Purdue University and the University of Missouri. Calabro transitioned into the NBA during the 198384 season, serving as the play-by-play announcer for the Kansas City Kings. In the 198788 season, he joined the Seattle SuperSonics, initially working alongside veteran Bob Blackburn, before assuming the role of sole play-by-play announcer for the team in 1992 following Blackburn’s retirement.
