His journey into professional wrestling began at the age of 16 in 2000, under the tutelage of prominent trainers such as Serge Jodoin, Jacques Rougeau, and Terry Taylor. Owens quickly established himself on the independent circuit, performing across various promotions and gaining significant recognition for his aggressive style and compelling character work. Early in his career, he achieved multiple championships, including three reigns as IWS World Heavyweight Champion and three reigns as PWG World Champion, demonstrating his ability to dominate different competitive environments.
Owens’ career progression saw him become a foundational figure in Ring of Honor (ROH), where he held both the ROH World Championship and the ROH World Tag Team Championship. His intense storylines and in-ring capabilities made him a top draw, laying the groundwork for his eventual transition to WWE. In late 2014, Owens signed with WWE, debuting in their developmental brand NXT. He made an immediate impact, winning the NXT Championship just two months after his debut, a record that stood for nearly a decade. His main roster debut in May 2015 against John Cena positioned him as a significant new force in the company.
Throughout his tenure in WWE, Owens has achieved considerable success. He has held the Universal Championship once, the Intercontinental Championship twice, and the United States Championship three times. In 2023, he became the 23rd WWE Grand Slam Champion by winning the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship with Sami Zayn.
