About

Keyu Jin was born in Beijing, China, on November 13, 1982. At the age of 14, she relocated to the Bronx, New York City, to attend Horace Mann School, subsequently moving to Cambridge, Massachusetts, for her university education. She pursued her studies at Harvard University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in economics in 2004, followed by a Doctor of Philosophy in economics in 2009. Her early academic focus was on international macroeconomics and the Chinese economy, laying the groundwork for her distinguished career.

Jin began her academic career as an assistant professor of economics at the London School of Economics (LSE) in 2009, a position she held until 2016, when she was promoted to associate professor. She remained a tenured professor at LSE for 15 years. Her research during this period centered on areas such as global trade imbalances, global asset prices, and China’s economic growth model. In addition to her academic roles, she has held visiting professorships at Yale University in 2012 and UC Berkeley in 2015, further broadening her academic reach and collaborative research efforts. In 2014, the World Economic Forum recognized her contributions by naming her a Young Global Leader.

Throughout her career, Jin has advised significant international financial institutions, including the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, and the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. Her insights into economic and financial policy issues have also been sought by major financial entities like Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, and Morgan Stanley. She is an academic member of the China Finance 40 Group and has served on a working committee for the China Banking Regulatory Commission on Fintech. In 2022, she joined the board of Credit Suisse, serving on its Risk Committee and Digital Transformation and Technology Committee. She also serves as a non-executive board member for luxury conglomerate Richemont and Jardine Matheson, bridging her economic expertise with commercial leadership. Her book, “The New China Playbook: Beyond Socialism and Capitalism,” published in 2023, offers a comprehensive analysis of China’s economic trajectory.
