Konstantinos Genidounias

Konstantinos Genidounias was born on May 3, 1993, in Athens, Greece. He began his water polo career with the Athletic Club at Palaio Faliro, where he was part of seven Pan-Hellenic Championship winning teams. Recognized for his talent early on, Genidounias was named the MVP of the European Youth Championships in 2010. He then moved to the United States to study communication at the University of Southern California (USC), where he became a key player for the USC Trojans men’s water polo team.

During his time at USC from 2011 to 2014, Genidounias achieved significant milestones. He secured three consecutive NCAA Championships in 2011, 2012, and 2013. As a senior in 2014, he became USC’s all-time leading scorer with 261 career goals. In the same year, he won the Peter J. Cutino Award, was named National Player of the Year and MPSF Player of the Year, and was selected to the NCAA All-Tournament First Team. He notably scored 82 goals in 2014, the second-most in a single season for USC, and recorded a career-high seven goals against Cal on September 21, 2014. These achievements solidified his reputation as a dominant offensive force in collegiate water polo.

Following his collegiate success, Genidounias continued his career with the Greek National Team, making his Olympic debut at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games, where Greece finished in sixth place. He earned a bronze medal at the 2015 FINA World Championships and a silver medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. He is set to participate in his third Olympic Games in Paris. Since 2015, Genidounias has played for the Greek powerhouse Olympiacos Water Polo Club, contributing to multiple Greek Championships, Greek Cups, and Greek Super Cups, and notably winning the LEN Champions League in 2017–18. He was also the LEN Champions League Top Scorer in the 2018–19 season with 42 goals, and was recognized as the LEN Champions League Left Driver of the Year in 2018–19 and Right Driver of the Year in 2023–24.
