Kristen Hughey

Kristen Hughey began her journey into cosplay in 2012, after being introduced to the concept by her brothers who attended Blizzcon in 2009. Having learned to sew from her mother at a young age and possessing a lifelong interest in crafting and ‘nerdery,’ she recognized cosplay as a natural extension of her passions. Her initial convention appearances in 2012 saw her cosplay as Black Cat, Jessica Rabbit, and Jade. Through this experience, she discovered a community and a creative outlet that resonated deeply with her. She approaches costume creation with a focus on accuracy balanced with creative interpretation, often aiming to design characters as if they existed in the real world.

Over the years, Hughey has expanded her presence beyond cosplay, becoming a glamour model and a Twitch streamer. She actively engages with her community, known as the ‘#Hugheycrew,’ through various platforms. Her online content, including a YouTube channel, provides tutorials, tips, and insights into cosplay, addressing common questions from new and aspiring cosplayers. She also hosts crafting and gaming livestreams on Twitch, primarily playing games like League of Legends, Overwatch, and titles from Valve and Blizzard. Her favorite characters to cosplay include Poison Ivy due to the character’s intellectual and alluring dual nature, and Harley Quinn, appreciating the character’s complexity and ability to allow her to break out of her naturally shy personality.

Hughey has traveled globally for her cosplay endeavors, attending conventions in locations such as Mexico, Argentina, Uruguay, Germany, England, and Canada. In addition to her creative work, she is a student with an interest in learning, and enjoys hobbies such as belly dance, photography, cooking, and natural healing. She has also voiced a robot character in the video game “Liquid Metal,” a personal career ambition. Hughey is known for her inclusive perspective on cosplay, advocating that participation should not be limited by physical standards but should be driven by passion for the characters and the craft.
