About

Kristen Jaymes Stewart was born on April 9, 1990, in Los Angeles, California, to parents working in the film and television industry. Her father, John Stewart, is a stage manager and TV producer, and her mother, Jules Mann-Stewart, is a script supervisor and filmmaker. Initially not aspiring to act, Stewart’s career began at age eight after a talent scout noticed her in a school play. She secured her first significant role as Sam Jennings in “The Safety of Objects” (2001) and gained wider recognition starring alongside Jodie Foster in David Fincher’s “Panic Room” (2002), earning her a Young Artist Award nomination. Her early career also included roles in “Cold Creek Manor” (2003) and the critically praised television film “Speak” (2004), where her performance as a traumatized teenager received positive reviews.

Stewart’s breakthrough to global stardom occurred when she was cast as Isabella “Bella” Swan in “The Twilight Saga” film series (2008-2012), based on Stephenie Meyer’s popular novels. This role cemented her status as a leading actress and led to commercial success, with the franchise grossing over $3.32 billion worldwide. Despite the mainstream appeal of “Twilight,” Stewart consistently pursued independent projects. Collaborations with director Olivier Assayas, such as “Clouds of Sils Maria” (2014) and “Personal Shopper” (2016), earned her critical accolades, including the César Award for Best Supporting Actress, making her the first American actress to win it in three decades. Her portrayal of Princess Diana in Pablo Larraín’s “Spencer” (2021) further showcased her dramatic range, earning her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress.

Beyond acting, Stewart has expanded her creative work into directing and producing. She made her directorial debut with the short film “Come Swim” (2017), which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, and has since directed music videos and short films as part of anthologies like “Homemade.” She has also taken on executive producer roles, including for the TV series “Living for the Dead” (2023). Her career trajectory demonstrates a commitment to varied roles and creative expression across different facets of filmmaking, earning her recognition such as the BAFTA Rising Star Award in 2010 and the Hollywood Critics Association’s Actress of the Decade Award in 2020.
