Sally Struthers

Sally Ann Struthers was born on July 28, 1947, in Portland, Oregon. She pursued an acting career after high school, training at the Pasadena Playhouse College of Theatre Arts on a scholarship. Her early career included appearances as a dancer and performer on variety shows such as “The Smothers Brothers Summer Show” and “The Tim Conway Comedy Hour” in 1970. She also took on supporting roles in films like “Five Easy Pieces” (1970) and “The Getaway” (1972).

Struthers’ career advanced significantly with her role as Gloria Stivic in the sitcom “All in the Family” (1971–1978). Her portrayal of Gloria earned her two Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series in 1972 and 1979, along with four Golden Globe nominations. Following “All in the Family,” she starred in the spin-off series “Gloria” (1982–1983) and showcased her vocal talents in animated series, including voicing Pebbles Flintstone in “The Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm Show” (1971–1972) and Rebecca Cunningham in “TaleSpin” (1990–1991), as well as Charlene Sinclair in “Dinosaurs” (1991–1994).

Throughout her career, Struthers has also made notable contributions to stage acting, performing in Broadway productions like “Wally’s Cafe” (1981) and touring with productions of “Grease” and “Annie.” She also held a recurring role as Babette Dell in “Gilmore Girls” (2000–2007) and its miniseries revival “Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life” (2016). In recent years, she has continued to appear in television and film, including a role in the Netflix series “A Man on the Inside” (2024). Beyond her acting, Struthers has served as a longtime spokesperson and activist for the Christian Children’s Fund, later ChildFund, advocating for children in developing countries.
