Kristina Bröring-Sprehe is a German dressage rider who has enjoyed much success during her career. In 25 years of competing at junior and senior level, she has topped the FEI world rankings and won three Olympic medals and several medals from the World and European championships. She was awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf, Germany’s highest sporting award, in 2017.
Bröring-Sprehe was born in Lohne in what was then West Germany in October 1986. Horses run deep in her family blood: her grandfather was a horse breeder and riding enthusiast and her father ran the family stud. She began riding when she was four years old and decided to focus when she was 12, competing in her first national championships shortly afterwards. She won her first individual international medal in 2003 and also became the national champion for her age group.
By the dawn of the following decade, Bröring-Sprehe had been promoted to the first-team of German dressage riders and won the Piaff Promotion Prize. In 2012, she won her first international Grand Prix, which proved to be her international breakthrough, leading to her selection for the German Olympic team, which won team silver in London. At her next Olympics, in Rio in 2016, she helped the team to win gold and took the individual bronze for herself. She also helped Germany to win the European Championships in 2013 and the World Championships the following year. By 2018, she was ranked number one in the world. She remains active today and helps with training and supervision at the family stud.
