Krysta Rodriguez

Krysta Anne Rodriguez was born on July 23, 1984, in Orange County, California. Her early interest in performing began at age 11 when she joined the cast of the Christian television show “Colby’s Clubhouse” from 1995 to 2000. During this period, she also took up dance. After seeing several Broadway shows in New York, she recognized the need to sing and act alongside dancing. Rodriguez subsequently pursued singing and acting lessons. She attended Orange County High School of the Arts, where she performed lead roles such as Marian in “The Music Man” and the title role in “Gidget: The Musical,” a production co-written and directed by Francis Ford Coppola that featured high school students during its 2000 tryouts. She later enrolled at New York University but began working professionally shortly after, leading to an early career start without completing her degree.

Rodriguez made her Broadway debut in the 2005 jukebox musical “Good Vibrations.” She later became a replacement for the role of Bebe in the 2007 Broadway revival of “A Chorus Line.” Her early Broadway career included ensemble and understudy roles in productions such as “Spring Awakening” and “In the Heights.” In 2009, Rodriguez originated the role of Wednesday Addams in the world premiere try-out of “The Addams Family” musical in Chicago, which later moved to Broadway’s Lunt-Fontanne Theatre in March 2010. She performed in this role for over a year, contributing her voice to the original cast recording before departing in March 2011. Her television debut was a guest appearance on “Gossip Girl,” and she made her feature film debut in “The Virginity Hit” in 2010.

Her career continued with significant television roles, including Ana Vargas in the second season of NBC’s “Smash” (2013), and Summer Henderson in “Trial & Error” (2017). She also took on the recurring role of Maxine Griffin in ABC’s “Quantico” (2017) and Ms. Crumble in the Netflix series “Daybreak” (2019). Beyond her acting, Rodriguez has been a vocal breast cancer advocate. Diagnosed in the fall of 2014, she launched ChemoCouture.com in 2015, a blog documenting her chemotherapy journey and offering fashion, beauty, and wellness advice for others facing similar health challenges. She later blogged for Cosmopolitan’s Cosmo Online Health and Fitness section about her experiences, highlighting her resilience and commitment to supporting others. Rodriguez has continued to perform across theatre, film, and television, including roles like Liza Minnelli in the Netflix miniseries “Halston” (2021) and Cinderella in the Broadway revival of “Into the Woods” (2022).
