United States Kyle Gibson is a veteran Major League Baseball pitcher who has consistently performed at a high level across multiple teams, demonstrating resilience and a dedication to his craft.
Serves as the Vice President of Big League Impact, an organization started by former Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright. He launched the #ALLWIN campaign in Philadelphia which also supports Philabundance, and has been involved in charitable programs to help feed children.
Recipient of the 2017 Carl R. Pohlad Community Service Award, voted on by the Twins Community Fund Board of Directors, for his community involvement.
Kyle Benjamin Gibson was born on October 23, 1987, in Greenfield, Indiana. He attended Greenfield-Central High School, where he excelled in baseball. In 2006, the Philadelphia Phillies selected him in the 36th round of the MLB Draft, but he chose to attend the University of Missouri, playing college baseball for the Missouri Tigers. In 2008, he pitched for the USA Baseball collegiate national team, leading them with five wins and securing a 1-0 victory over Japan in the Gold Medal game of the FISU World Championship.
Gibson was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the first round (22nd overall) of the 2009 MLB Draft. After navigating a stress fracture and Tommy John surgery during his minor league development, he made his MLB debut on June 29, 2013, with the Twins. Throughout his career, Gibson has been recognized for his contributions both on and off the field, including being a Roberto Clemente Award nominee multiple times (2019, 2022, and 2023) and receiving the Carl R. Pohlad Community Service Award in 2017 while with the Twins.
Gibson has played for several MLB teams, including the Minnesota Twins (2013–2019), Texas Rangers (2020–2021), Philadelphia Phillies (2021–2022), Baltimore Orioles (2023), and St. Louis Cardinals (2024). He notably made his first All-Star team in 2021 as a member of the Texas Rangers. His career highlights include leading the American League in induced ground into double plays in 2023 and consistently logging significant innings as a starting pitcher. Gibson announced his retirement from professional baseball on July 17, 2025, after a 13-year career.
