Kyle Rees is a Welsh actor who is most recognised for his recurring role of Blue, a darkly thrilling character on the British soap Hollyoaks that earned him a devoted following, as well as his role in hit feature film Pride. Rees has also worked on Emmerdale, as well as the Channel 4 drama Crossing The Border, and has extensive experience on stage in highly acclaimed productions such as The Passion and The Radicalisation of Bradley Manning, run by national Theatre Wales, and Land of Our Fathers in London’s West End – this skill of live performing translated incredibly positively as Rees gained his celebrated role in Pride soon after.
Pride saw the Welsh star achieve international recognition almost overnight in the Bafta-winning British film directed by Matthew Warchus, allowing Rees to work alongside eminent actors such as BBC Sherlock’s Andrew Scott. The film is a feel-good comedy-drama which follows a group of UK gay activists as they navigate the summer of 1984, aiming to help the miners during the strike of the National Union of Mineworkers, and it was nominated for a Golden Globe. Rees has also featured in films such as Romans and Love Type D.
Rees recently starred in the medieval inspired drama series The Bastard Executioner, written by Jurt Sutter, which was so popular even popstar Ed Sheeran featured in the show. Rees has also appeared on Da Vinci’s Demons and The Indian Doctor, and his most recent project is a recurring role in the dramatic historical-fiction inspired Outlander, with Catriona Balfe and Sam Heughan
