What began as a father-daughter bonding moment, paved the way for Laetisha Scanlan’s outstanding career. Scanlan took to Trap shooting like a natural and has proven herself in the competitive circuit since. Part of the Australian national team, Scanlan has been crowned World Champion, Commonwealth Champion and record holder. With her sights on appearing on the Olympic stage for the second time, Scanlan has what it takes to walk the podium once more.
Scanlan’s debut Olympics in Rio, saw her paired with teammate Catherine Skinner. Shooting to the semi-finals, Scanlan finished in an impressive fifth place overall. Her appearance at the Rio Olympics gave Scanlan a firm footing to achieve what she did next. Winning gold at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, Scanlan showed her phenomenal shooting prowess in the individual event. Success at the Commonwealth Games didn’t end there. Scanlan has racked up four gold titles, one in 2010 for Trap pairs, and the individual event in 2014 and 2020. Climbing the podium is very familiar to Scanlan.
Australia’s first selection event doubled up with the 2020 Commonwealth Games. Securing her next Olympic Games, Scanlan impressively missed only three targets. Confident, focused and unrivalled in skill, Scanlan’s competitive skills set her apart from her rival opponents. Her next Olympic moment may be her most challenging yet, but Scanlan will only see one target, victory. With the Aussie crowd behind her, Scanlan will shoot for the win.
