Larry Saperstein has transitioned from early theatrical roles to starring in a popular Disney+ series, showcasing his talents as an actor, director, and dancer.
Laurence Benjamin Saperstein was born on April 12, 1998, in Islip, New York. He began his performing career at a young age, participating in community theater with his parents and starting dance at age 6. His early passion for performance led him to several summer programs at the Usdan Summer Camp for the Arts. Saperstein attended Islip High School and was recognized as a 2016 Long Island Scholar Artist. He furthered his education by earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Production and Design for Stage and Screen from Pace University in New York City in 2020.
Saperstein’s theatrical background includes his first role at age 6 as Winthrop Paroo in Star Playhouse’s production of ‘The Music Man’ in 2007. He continued with various stage roles, including a West Coast tour of ‘Miracle on 34th Street’ from 2009 to 2010. His work extended to behind-the-scenes roles, such as lighting designer for ‘Clybourne Park’ in 2016 and ‘Peter and the Starcatcher’ in 2018. His film career began with short films like ‘Finding’ and ‘Blindfold’ in 2011, followed by a television film role as Lucius in ‘Fan Girl’ in 2015.
A significant career milestone occurred in February 2019 when he was cast in the Disney+ series ‘High School Musical: The Musical: The Series’ as Big Red. This role, which spanned five years from 2019 to 2023, brought him widespread recognition. He also appeared in the film ‘Porno’ in 2019 and a single episode of ‘First Wives Club’ in the same year. In addition to his acting, Saperstein has taken on directing roles, including the podcast series ‘Let’s Talk About That! With Larry Saperstein and Jacob Bellotti’ in 2024. He was also involved in ‘Gap Year’ as a second second assistant director in 2019. In June 2021, Saperstein publicly identified as bisexual.
