Lashana Lynch was born on November 27, 1987, in Hammersmith, London, and is of Jamaican descent. She trained at ArtsEd drama school in London, showcasing her talent early on by being awarded the Laurence Olivier Bursary in 2009 during her second year. Lynch made her film debut in 2011 with the drama film ‘Fast Girls’ and later co-starred in the BBC television film ‘The 7.39’. Her early television appearances included roles in ‘Silent Witness’, ‘Death in Paradise’, and as a regular cast member on the BBC comedy ‘Crims’ in 2015.
A significant career turning point arrived in 2016 when Lynch was cast as Rosaline, the leading character in Shonda Rhimes’ American period drama series ‘Still Star-Crossed’. In 2019, she gained international recognition for her portrayal of Maria Rambeau in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film ‘Captain Marvel’. This was followed by her iconic role as Nomi, the new 007 agent, in the 2021 James Bond film ‘No Time to Die’, a role that garnered significant media attention globally. Her performance in ‘No Time to Die’ earned her a BAFTA Rising Star Award in 2022.
Lynch continued to solidify her presence in major productions, starring as Izogie in the historical epic ‘The Woman King’ and Miss Honey in ‘Matilda the Musical’, both released in 2022. The same year, she revisited her role as an alternate version of Maria Rambeau in ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ and later made a cameo in ‘The Marvels’ (2023). Lynch also took on the role of Rita Marley in the 2024 biopic ‘Bob Marley: One Love’ and is set to voice Brianna Young in the upcoming video game ‘Directive 8020’ (2026), marking her entry into the gaming industry.
