Tim Robinson

Tim Robinson was born on May 23, 1981, in Detroit, Michigan. He developed an early interest in comedy after attending a Second City performance in Chicago as a teenager, which led him to take improv classes at the Detroit branch of The Second City. To support his early career in comedy, he worked in a toy store and taught improv. Robinson’s foundational experience in improvisational theatre, including touring with Second City Detroit and performing with Second City Chicago and iO Theater, laid the groundwork for his distinctive comedic style.

Robinson’s career progressed significantly in 2012 when he joined the cast of “Saturday Night Live” as a featured performer. After one season, he transitioned to a staff writer position for the show, a rare career path for an SNL cast member. His writing and performing contributions to SNL were followed by co-creating and co-starring in “Detroiters” (2017–2018), a Comedy Central series. His signature sketch comedy gained wider recognition with the Netflix series “I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson,” which he co-created, co-wrote, and starred in from 2019 to 2023. This series earned him two Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Actor in a Short Form Comedy or Drama Series in 2022 and 2023.

Building on his success, Robinson continues to innovate in the comedy landscape. He is currently involved in the upcoming HBO series “The Chair Company” (2025), serving as its co-creator, co-writer, and executive producer, in addition to starring in it. This series has already distinguished itself by becoming HBO’s most-watched comedy series debut in over five years. His filmography also includes voice roles in animated features and video games, demonstrating his versatility as a performer across various media.
