Lawrence Tynes

Lawrence Tynes, born on May 3, 1978, in Greenock, Scotland, began his athletic journey in soccer before transitioning to Football as a kicker. After playing college football at Troy University, he entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2001, signing with the Kansas City Chiefs. His early career included stints on the Chiefs’ practice squad, with the Scottish Claymores in NFL Europe in 2002, and the Ottawa Renegades in the Canadian Football League from 2002 to 2003. He returned to the Kansas City Chiefs from 2004 to 2006, establishing himself as a reliable kicker.

Tynes experienced significant career progression when he joined the New York Giants in 2007. During his first season with the Giants, he made a game-winning 47-yard field goal in overtime against the Green Bay Packers in the 2007 NFC Championship Game, leading the team to Super Bowl XLII. Four years later, in the 2011–12 NFC Championship Game, he again kicked an overtime field goal, this time against the San Francisco 49ers, sending the Giants to Super Bowl XLVI. He won both Super Bowls with the Giants, defeating the New England Patriots in both instances. Tynes is recognized for being the only player in NFL history with two overtime game-winning field goals in the playoffs. His career-high was 33 field goals made out of 39 opportunities in the 2012 season with the Giants.

His NFL career concluded prematurely in 2013 after contracting MRSA while with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, which led to his placement on injured reserve and eventual release. Following his football career, Tynes transitioned into the financial sector, becoming the Director of Sports at Creative Planning. In this role, he provides wealth management services, demonstrating his ability to apply discipline and strategic thinking from his sports career to the business world.
