Frankie Amaya

Frankie Amaya was born on September 26, 2000, in Santa Ana, California. He began his youth soccer career with Pateadores SC in Orange County, California, where he was recognized for his talent, helping his team win the region’s West Conference and being named to the West Conference Best XI. Amaya’s strong performance led him to be ranked as a four-star recruit by TopDrawerSoccer.com and the number one club player in Southern California. He then played college soccer at UCLA in 2018, where he made 14 appearances, scored two goals, and provided two assists. His collegiate performance earned him Freshman All-American, First Team All-Pac-12, and Second Team All-Far West Region honors before he declared for the MLS SuperDraft.

Amaya signed a Generation adidas contract and was subsequently drafted first overall by FC Cincinnati in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft. He made his MLS debut on March 30, 2019, and scored his first professional goal on July 16, 2020, during the MLS is Back Tournament against Atlanta United. In 2021, Amaya was traded to the New York Red Bulls, where he continued to develop, setting new career highs in appearances, starts, minutes, and assists in 2022. During his tenure with the Red Bulls, he recorded his first multi-goal game on June 24, 2023, against Atlanta United, contributing to a 4-0 victory. His consistent performances earned him selections to the MLS Team of the Matchday on multiple occasions.

Following his time with the New York Red Bulls, Amaya was transferred to Liga MX club Toluca FC in 2024. He later returned to Major League Soccer on loan, first with Los Angeles FC in 2025, and then joined CF Montréal on loan through the end of the 2026 season. Throughout his career, Amaya has also represented the United States at the international youth level, making his debut with the U-20 Men’s National Team in March 2018 and participating in the CONCACAF U-20 Tournament. He holds both U.S. and Mexican citizenship.
