American actress and singer, Lexi Lawson is best known for her leading roles in several hit Broadway musicals, along with her TV and film appearances.
Growing up in New York, Lawson had a passion for musical theatre from a young age. Before making her big break, Lawson appeared on the TV show Tonight’s the Nite in 2007 and played the role of the wedding singer in the 2009 film, Ghosts of Girlfriends Past. It was later in 2010 that Lawson joined the cast of the rock musical Rent on their national tour playing the lead female role Mimi Marquez. Following her immense success as part of the hit show, Lawson was cast as Vanessa in the musical In The Heights by well-known composer and producer, Lin-Manuel Miranda. After enjoying touring nationally with the cast, Lawson went on to make her Broadway debut as Eliza Hamilton in Hamilton. Alongside her theatre work, Lawson has recorded several singles including The Christmas Song in 2017 and in 2018 she collaborated with other Eliza actresses to record an original song from the musical Hamilton. Of her other TV work, Lawson has appeared in shows including What Would You Do? The Mentalist and Power.
Prior to her theatrical appearances, Lawson successfully made it to the final of American Idol during 2008 before dropping out to join the cast of Rent on tour. She also joined the cast of In The Heights for their guest performance on the popular reality TV show So You Think You Can Dance.
