Professional Snooker player Ricky Walden paid a visit to OX this summer as a part of his journey through the United States and Canada.

Ricky Walden was born on November 11, 1982, in Chester, England, and raised in Bagillt, North Wales. He began his professional snooker career in 2000, following his success as a young talent, including winning the World Under-21 Championship in 2001. His early years on the professional circuit saw him steadily climb the ranks, demonstrating his potential as a formidable player. In the 2004/2005 season, he made significant progress, rising 30 places in the world rankings and reaching the quarter-finals of the China Open. This period laid the groundwork for his future achievements, as he gained experience competing against established players.
Walden achieved his first major breakthrough in 2008, winning his inaugural ranking title at the Shanghai Masters, where he notably defeated Ronnie O’Sullivan in the final. This victory marked a turning point in his career, establishing him as a top-tier player. He continued to build on this success, securing further ranking titles including the 2012 Wuxi Classic and the 2014 International Championship, where he earned his highest career prize of £125,000. Throughout his career, Walden has consistently competed in major tournaments, reaching the televised stages of the World Snooker Championship on nine occasions, with his best performance being a semi-finalist in 2013. His dedication to the sport has seen him maintain a presence within the top echelons of snooker, reaching a career-high world ranking of 6 in March 2015.
Despite facing challenges, including a bulging disc injury in December 2016 and subsequent health issues like pancreatitis, Walden has shown resilience in his career. He has consistently worked towards rebuilding his form, demonstrating commitment to the sport.
