Born Linda Carroll Hamilton on September 26, 1956, in Salisbury, Maryland, she pursued acting studies in New York City after two years at Washington College. She attended acting workshops with Lee Strasberg. Hamilton’s early career involved small television roles before her breakthrough. Her first major film role was in “The Terminator” (1984), where she played Sarah Connor, a character that would become central to her career. Prior to her major success in the “Terminator” franchise sequels, she was also known for her role in the television series “Beauty and the Beast” (1987-1989).
Hamilton’s career is marked by her ability to embody resilient female figures. Following “The Terminator,” she starred in “Children of the Corn” (1984) and “King Kong Lives” (1986). The television series “Beauty and the Beast” earned her Golden Globe and Emmy Award nominations, and she received a Romy Award in 1990. Her most iconic return to the Sarah Connor role came in “Terminator 2: Judgment Day” (1991), a film that garnered critical and commercial success. For this role, she underwent intense physical training and received two MTV Movie Awards and a Saturn Award for Best Actress.
