Felecia Gooden – better known by her stage name Lisa Hyper – is a Jamaican born singer, songwriter and DJ. Famous for her provocatively intelligent lyrics and multiple styles of delivery, the ‘Pretty Butterfly’ artist won the EME Excellence in Music award for best new female artist in 2010, and has since cemented her status as the leading and most provocative dancehall lyrical queen. The feisty singer was catapulted to the top of the dancehall scene as soon as she arrived thanks to her love of performing and natural talent, and her relentless work ethic has now helped keep her on top for over a decade.
Hailing from the Stony Hill area of Kingston, Hyper used to pen lyrics while still in high school and sell them to the students at her school. She began her music career as soon as she graduated and after signing to top DJ (and childhood friend) Vybz Kartel’s label, she began to feature on hits including ‘Whine for Me’ and collaborated with the likes of Lady Saw, Beenie Man and Gyptian. Mentored by Kartel she honed her craft expertly and continued to rise to the top.
Fast forward more than a decade and Hyper is still one of the most famous figures in dancehall, regularly dropping bangers (most recently 2022 track ‘Saw Di Hype’) and has no plans on slowing down as she continues to break barriers in the music industry.
