Popular American comedian Liza Treyger is well-known for her talents as a stand-up performer, but she’s recently been branching out. She appeared in the 2020 film King of Staten Island, which was directed by Judd Apatow (Knocked Up, The 40-Year-Old Virgin etc.) and starred the likes of Marisa Tomei and Steve Buscemi. She also co-hosts That’s Messed Up: An SVU Podcast, in which she and friend and fellow comedian Kara Klenk “deep-dive” into episodes of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.
Treyger is based in New York but was born in Russia and raised in the Illinois village of Skokie, on the northern edge of the Chicago suburbs. She first gained wider attention in 2017 when she was included on the prestigious Variety’s Top 10 Comics to Watch list. She also performed a show, based on her 20s and growing up in Chicago, at the world-famous Just for Laughs Festival in Montreal, winning rave reviews. Her growing profile has seen her perform in major cities around the world, including New York and London.
Treyger made her comedy debut back in 2010, appearing on one of the first episodes of the long-running, highly influential podcast, Your Mom’s House. She then spent many years working the comedy club circuit, appearing on many stand-up showcase TV shows and programmes such as Late Night with Seth Meyers. In 2017, she recorded a half-hour special for Comedy Central and has also appeared in a Netflix special as part of The Degenerates. She has also released one album of stand-up material, 2015’s Glittercheese.
