Lorenzo Brando Chiavarini

Lorenzo Brando Chiavarini was born in Rome on January 17, 1994. He moved to Scotland at a young age, where he initially explored sports such as football and golf before discovering sailing. Living by the sea, he began sailing with his dog, developing a skill and passion for the water that would shape his career. Chiavarini demonstrated early talent in regattas, which set the foundation for his competitive sailing journey. He pursued higher education, earning a degree in Navigation and Maritime Science from Plymouth University, while simultaneously advancing his athletic career.

Chiavarini’s career has included periods of significant achievement, as well as overcoming challenges. He represented Great Britain in numerous international competitions during the early stages of his career. From 2013 to 2021, while competing for Great Britain, he achieved notable results in World Championships, including an 8th place finish in Sakaiminato in 2019, and a 10th place in Kingston in 2015. His performance at European Championships also saw him secure a 1st place in Porto in 2019 and a 3rd place in Gdańsk in 2020. In 2022, Chiavarini began competing for Italy. This transition marked a new phase in his career, leading to his Olympic debut.

A significant milestone in Chiavarini’s career was his qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, fulfilling a long-standing personal goal. Prior to this, he had to overcome serious injuries that threatened his career, demonstrating resilience and dedication during his rehabilitation. Competing for Italy, he achieved a 5th place finish at the ILCA 7 World Championships in The Hague, Netherlands, in 2023, which was instrumental in his Olympic qualification. At the Paris 2024 Olympics, he finished 9th in the Men’s Dinghy event. His competitive history also includes multiple top finishes in World Cup events, further establishing his presence in international sailing.
