George Gautrey

George Gautrey is a New Zealand sailor recognized for his achievements in Olympic dinghy sailing, particularly in the ILCA 7 class. He has been honored with multiple awards, including NZ Sailor of the Year, and continues to compete at an international level. After securing a bronze medal at the Laser Worlds in Japan in 2019, George Gautrey went on to establish himself as a leading figure in Olympic dinghy sailing, specializing in the demanding ILCA 7 class. His early development in the sport was supported by foundational coaching from 2010 to 2015, which honed his skills across various classes, including Moth and ILCA 6.

Further showcasing his enduring talent, Gautrey made a strong return to international ILCA sailing after a period away, finishing just 11 points behind Britain’s Mickey Beckett in a highly competitive fleet. His recent performances highlight his continued dominance, notably leading the International Laser Class Association (ILCA 7) fleet at the halfway point of the 2025 Long Beach Olympic event, a testament to his current form and competitive edge.
