Lucas di Grassi

Born in Sao Paulo in 1984, Lucas di Grassi made significant contributions to both motorsports and environmental advocacy. He was a foundational figure in the ABB FIA Formula E Championship, being the first driver to commit to the series and playing a key role in developing the original prototype car for GEN1, which debuted in the 2014/15 season. His career highlights include winning the inaugural Formula E race, the 2014 Beijing E-Prix, and securing the 2016/17 Drivers’ title after overcoming a 10-point deficit. Di Grassi has driven for prominent teams such as Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler, ROKIT Venturi Racing, Mahindra Racing, and Lola Yamaha ABT, consistently demonstrating his racing prowess and adaptability across various powertrains and team structures.

Beyond his racing achievements, di Grassi is deeply involved in technological innovation and environmental initiatives. In 2016, he drove a racing car on the Arctic Ice Cap for ‘Project Ice,’ raising awareness about global warming. He serves as the CEO of the autonomous racing car project Roborace and founded his own electric bike start-up in Brazil. His advocacy extends to being appointed the United Nations Environment Programme’s clean air ambassador in 2018. He also co-founded and became Sustainability Ambassador for the ESkootr Championship in 2020, highlighting his commitment to sustainable mobility solutions.

Di Grassi’s professional journey began with karting at age 10, progressing through single-seater categories to achieve victory in the Macau Grand Prix in 2005 and a season in Formula 1 with Virgin Racing in 2010. He further cemented his reputation as an accomplished driver with Audi as a factory driver in 2012, clinching multiple podium finishes in the challenging 24 Hours of Le Mans. His career reflects a blend of competitive driving and a forward-thinking approach to automotive technology and environmental responsibility.
