Malia Baker

Malia Baker, born in Gaborone, Botswana, in 2006, moved to Canada at age two. Her acting career began in 2018 with an uncredited role in the TV movie ‘Hope at Christmas,’ followed by appearances in television series such as ABC’s ‘A Million Little Things,’ The CW’s ‘The Flash,’ and an episode of ‘The Twilight Zone’ in 2019. Her early work laid the foundation for her breakthrough roles, showcasing her consistent dedication to her craft from a young age.

Baker gained significant recognition for her role as Mary Anne Spier in Netflix’s ‘The Baby-Sitters Club,’ which premiered in 2020. This performance earned her a Family Emmy nomination for Best Youth Performance. In 2021, she starred as Gabby Lewis in Nickelodeon’s ‘Are You Afraid of the Dark?’, for which she received a nomination for Favorite Female TV Star at the 2022 Kids Choice Awards. Her career has since expanded to include the Lifetime movie ‘Caught in His Web,’ executive produced by Whoopi Goldberg, and upcoming projects such as the independent feature ‘Spider & Jesse’ and Miramax’s dramedy ‘Harvest Moon,’ where she appears alongside Paul Bettany, Carmen Ejogo, and Candice Bergen.

Beyond acting, Baker has taken on producing roles, serving as producer for the award-winning script ’12 Hours’ and as executive producer and star in the indie survival drama ‘Hair of the Bear.’ She is also set to star as Chloe Charming in Disney+’s ‘Descendants: The Rise of Red’ and its sequel ‘Descendants: Wicked Wonderland.’ Malia is also a dedicated activist, using her platform to advocate for social justice issues, particularly girls’ and women’s rights. She serves as a Champion for the UN initiative GirlUp and is the first-ever youth Global Ambassador for She’s the First.
