Marco Odermatt was born on October 8, 1997, in Buochs, Nidwalden, Switzerland. He developed his skiing skills at SC Hergiswil and began his World Cup career with a debut in March 2016 at the age of 18, competing in the giant slalom at the season finals in St. Moritz. His early career was marked by significant achievements at the Junior World Championships. In 2016, he secured a bronze medal in super-G and a gold in giant slalom at Sochi. Two years later, in 2018 at Davos, Odermatt achieved a notable milestone, winning five gold medals across combined, downhill, super-G, giant slalom, and the team event, showcasing his potential as a multi-discipline skier.
Odermatt secured his first World Cup podium placement in March 2019 at Kranjska Gora. His first victory followed in December 2019 in a super-G event held in Beaver Creek. The 2021-22 season marked a significant turning point, with Odermatt winning seven races and claiming both the overall and giant slalom season titles. During this season, he achieved a childhood ambition by winning the giant slalom in Adelboden. Representing Switzerland at the 2022 Winter Olympics, he earned a gold medal in giant slalom. In the 2022-23 season, Odermatt set a new record for overall men’s points in a World Cup season with 2,042 and won gold medals in downhill and giant slalom at the 2023 World Ski Championships, marking his first professional downhill victory. He continued his success in the 2023-24 season, again achieving 13 wins, including the first nine giant slalom races, and securing four season titles: overall, downhill, super-G, and giant slalom. He surpassed Pirmin Zurbriggen to become the most successful male Swiss skier in World Cup history with his 41st victory and emulated Ingemar Stenmark by winning four consecutive giant slalom races in Adelboden (2025). The 2024-25 season saw him become a quadruple Globe winner again, taking his second Downhill Crystal Globe and second consecutive season with four Crystal Globes (Overall, Super G, Giant Slalom, and Downhill).
