Brazilian archer Marcus D’Almeida is a South American Games and Military World Games gold medal-winner, and one of the top talents of his sport. He has been nicknamed ‘Archery’s Neymar’ after his footballing countryman, in recognition of his incredible achievements while still a teenager.
D’Almeida first took up a bow in 2010, and made his international debut three years later. It did not take long for him to make his mark. At the 2014 South American Games in Santiago, d’Almeida took home a hat-trick of gold medals in individual, team and mixed events – every event for which he was eligible. Later that year, he was announced as the Brazilian flagbearer at the Summer Youth Olympics in Nanjing, where he also scored an individual silver medal, and ended the year with a silver medal finish in the individual recurve at the Archery World Cup Final in Lausanne.
Since his incredible breakout into the sport, D’Almeida has continued to collect medals, including at the World Youth Championships, the Pan American Championships, and the Pan American Games. In 2019, he scored a high-profile gold as part of a mixed para and open team at the Military World Games in Wuhan. To date, D’Almeida has won 66% of matches across his career, and boasts an impressive 9.4 average arrow. With a career-best 72-arrow score of 693, he is currently the Brazilian record-holder.
