Actress and activist María Elisa Camargo is conquering the Americas. She started acting in musical telenovelas after studying theatre as a child, which led to her first star role in Latin America, Maria Alegria in Mark of Desire (Telefutura/Univision). Camargo’s international acting career took off once she relocated to Mexico, where she landed a number of villain roles on Televisa’s primetime dramas. She was recognized in People en Español’s “50 Most Beautiful” as a top contender in Univision’s Mira Quien Baila.
Telemundo hired Camargo as a primetime star, and her show set a new high for the network, outperforming its direct competition Univision. Her career progressed to the screen, with her co-starring in the Dominican film Los Leones alongside Ozuna. She played the part of Patricia Teheran in the Colombian telenovela Tarde lo Conocí. She also had an appearance in the film Bajo el Mismo Cielo (as Adela Morales, the star in the series). Monica Serrano and Adriana Aguilar were her dual characters in Telemundo’s blockbuster sitcom En Otra Piel.
In 2015-2016, she starred in the Telemundo serial Bajo el Mismo Cielo, which set a record for Telemundo beating Univisión’s ratings during primetime at 9 p.m. She sang live in the Caracol bio-series Tarde Lo Conoc in 2017, in which she played the vallenato legend Patricia Teheran. In 2018, she starred as Isabel Garcia, the wife of emerging drug king Nacho Montero, in Telemundo’s epic series El Barón. In 2019, she co-starred with Ozuna and Clarissa Molina in the Caribbean Cinemas/Bou Group film Los Leones as “Elvira,” a crazy psychologist. She also won her first American role as Marisol Rooker in HBO/Cinemax’s Warrior.
