Sebastian Arcelus

Sebastian Arcelus is an actor and producer known for his extensive work on Broadway, television series like ‘House of Cards’ and ‘Madam Secretary’, and film roles, demonstrating a versatile appeal to diverse audiences and projects. After making his Broadway debut as a swing in Rent in 2002, covering multiple male roles before playing Roger for much of 2003 and into 2004, Sebastian Arcelus solidified his presence in the theatre world. His early career included significant regional productions such as The Who’s Tommy in Newark, New Jersey (2000), Big River in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and a repertory season with the Weathervane Theatre in 2001, where he featured in Floyd Collins and Cabaret. Arcelus also showcased his international versatility by participating in a bilingual production of West Side Story in Guatemala.

Concurrently, Arcelus became a main cast member, portraying Jay Whitman in the CBS political drama Madam Secretary from 2014 to 2019, an extensive role spanning 100 episodes. His film credits during this period include The Last Day of August (2012), The Best of Me (2014), Ted 2 (2015), and the M. Night Shyamalan thriller Split (2016). He also made guest appearances in other television series such as The Leftovers, FBI, and Bull.

In more recent years, Arcelus expanded his creative contributions by co-writing the musical Gettin’ the Band Back Together, which played on Broadway in 2018. He made a celebrated return to Broadway in 2022 as The Baker in the acclaimed revival of Into the Woods, a role he subsequently reprised for its national tour in 2023, often performing alongside Stephanie J. Block. His diverse career highlights his consistent ability to deliver compelling performances across stage, television, and film, maintaining a strong presence in the entertainment industry.
