About

Mark Richard Howard, born on October 23, 1973, in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, has built a distinguished career in Australian sports media spanning over two decades. His journey began with a brief period at the Seven Network before joining Network Ten in 2005. At Network Ten, Howard was initially recognized for his work on the network’s V8 Supercar coverage for two years. His role expanded significantly in 2008 when he joined Network Ten’s AFL team as a boundary rider. During this time, he was involved in covering key moments such as Hawthorn’s Lance Franklin’s 100th goal in a season and co-hosted the Brownlow Medal “Red Carpet” event for the network, showcasing his versatility in live broadcasting.

In 2009, Howard became the main correspondent for Network Ten’s multi-channel sports channel, One. This major role continued until the end of the 2011 AFL season when the network lost its rights to Aussie rules football. During his tenure, he co-hosted ‘The Game Plan’ alongside football figures Scott Cummings and Wayne Carey. His career progressed with extensive coverage of various major sporting events for Network Ten, including PGA Tour events, Formula 1, Australian MotoGP, and IPL Twenty20. He also reported and commentated on golf, beach cricket, soccer, cycling, Red Bull Air Races, and events like the Australian Open (Tennis) and the Melbourne Cup, including coverage of the Sydney and Athens Olympics, providing comprehensive sports journalism across multiple disciplines. Highlights from this period included live interviews with notable sports personalities such as David Beckham, Michael Schumacher, Sir Viv Richards, and Roger Federer.

Howard later transitioned to Fox Sports, where he became a commentator for Fox Cricket, covering Test, ODI, and T20I matches, as well as the Big Bash League. He also commentates AFL games for Fox Footy and Triple M. In addition to his television and radio commitments, Howard is the host of ‘The Howie Games,’ a successful podcast where he interviews various figures from the Australian and international sporting landscapes. In a notable international engagement, he commentated his first Indian Premier League game for Star Sports on April 25, 2023, for a match between the Mumbai Indians and the Gujarat Titans, further expanding his global reach in sports broadcasting.
