Mark Sheppard

Mark Andreas Sheppard was born on May 30, 1964, in London, England. The son of actor W. Morgan Sheppard, Mark A. Sheppard embarked on a diverse career that initially began in music. In 1976, he acquired his first drum kit and subsequently spent several years recording and touring with various artists, including Robyn Hitchcock, the Television Personalities, Hanoi Rocks, and Light a Big Fire. A notable early career milestone involved touring with Light a Big Fire as an opening act for U2’s 1987 Joshua Tree Tour. His musical pursuits were eventually set aside as he transitioned into acting.

Sheppard’s acting career commenced with television roles, including an appearance in “The X-Files” episode “Fire.” He spent a year in the main cast of the Jerry Bruckheimer action series “Soldier of Fortune, Inc.” during its first season (1997–1998). Over the years, he secured guest-starring and recurring roles across numerous television productions such as “The Practice,” “The Invisible Man,” “Special Unit 2,” “JAG,” “Star Trek: Voyager,” “The Chronicle,” “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation,” “CSI: NY,” “Monk,” and “Las Vegas.” His film credits include “In the Name of the Father” (1993), where he played Paddy Armstrong, and later co-produced the psychological thriller “Nether World” (1997) in which he also co-starred with his father.

A significant turning point in his career arrived with his role as Badger, a crime boss in Joss Whedon’s “Firefly.” He continued to expand his science fiction and fantasy portfolio with notable roles, such as Romo Lampkin in “Battlestar Galactica” (2007–2009) and the recurring character Jim Sterling in “Leverage” (2008–2012). From 2009 to 2017, he gained widespread recognition for his portrayal of Crowley, the King of Hell, in the television series “Supernatural,” a role that transitioned from recurring to a main character. Further work includes Canton Everett Delaware III in “Doctor Who” (2011) and Willoughby Kipling in “Doom Patrol” (2019–2023). In 2023, Sheppard experienced a severe health incident, suffering six heart attacks at his Los Angeles home, from which he has since recovered, necessitating resuscitation by first responders.
