Best known as a DJ, Cipha Sounds is also known as a comedian, radio and television personality. Cipha Sounds was born in 1976 to a family of Puerto Rican descent. Sounds started his radio career in 1996, working as an intern with Wildman Steve and DJ Riz. It was when Riz asked Sound to spin at clubs with him that opened the doors to success for Sounds as a DJ. After that, Sounds was asked by Lil’ Kim to go on tour with her. He got the job and spent a year and a half touring the country and Europe. After that, Sounds became a mix show DJ on Funksmaster’s Flex’s evening show on Hot 97. Sounds later got his own show, titled Cipha Saturdays at the same station. Sounds later went on Sirius Satellite Radio’s Shade 45 channel to host a show titled The Cipha Sounds Effect, with Angela Wee, DJ Wonder and the Emoticon Farragut Foster. Sounds also expanded his radio career at Power 105.1, where he took over Angie Martinez’s Weekday afternoons. In 2017, Sounds signed with ROC Nation. Apart from his career on radio, Sounds was also involved in comedy. In 2003, he was a DJ for the Comedy Central’s Chapelle’s Show, for 19 episodes. After that, in 2006, Sounds became the host of MTV’s urban music video program, Direct Effect, which was later known as Sucker Free. He has his own artist management company titled Jack Move Inc. Sounds also had his own stand-up comedy series, called Don’t Get Gassed, show monthly at Carolines on Broadway in New York City. He also appeared in a 2002 film, titled 25th Hour, where he played DJ Dusk.
