Mark Teixeira

Mark Charles Teixeira was born on April 11, 1980, in Annapolis, Maryland. His early life in Severna Park, Maryland, led him to Mount Saint Joseph High School in Baltimore, where he began his baseball career alongside Gavin Floyd. Teixeira chose to attend Georgia Institute of Technology for college baseball, declining an earlier draft offer from the Boston Red Sox in 1998. During his time at Georgia Tech, he distinguished himself as a collegiate baseball player, earning the Dick Howser Trophy in 2000 as the national collegiate player of the year, with a .427 batting average and a 1.319 OPS. His collegiate success positioned him for a significant professional career.

Teixeira was drafted fifth overall by the Texas Rangers in the 2001 MLB draft, marking the beginning of a 14-season Major League Baseball career. He made his MLB debut on Opening Day in 2003, hitting 26 home runs as a rookie. His career highlights include leading the American League in home runs and runs batted in in 2009 while playing for the New York Yankees, the same year he won a World Series championship with the team. He was a three-time All-Star (2005, 2009, 2015), won five Gold Glove Awards (2005, 2006, 2009, 2010, 2012), and three Silver Slugger Awards (2004, 2005, 2009).

Throughout his career, Teixeira played for several teams, including the Texas Rangers (2003–2007), Atlanta Braves (2007–2008), Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (2008), and New York Yankees (2009–2016). He holds the major league record for most games with a home run from both sides of the plate, with 14. After retiring from baseball at the end of the 2016 season, Teixeira transitioned into other professional endeavors, including serving as an ESPN baseball analyst from 2017 to 2021 and becoming a partner at Urban Creek Partners, managing a private equity and real estate portfolio. He also actively participates in various boards and charitable organizations.
