Mark Warburton

Mark Warburton was born on September 6, 1962, in London, England. His early career involved playing as a defender at non-League level, notably with Enfield from 1981 to 1985 and Boreham Wood from 1985 to 1988. After his playing career, Warburton transitioned into the financial sector, working as a currency trader in London and the United States. He successfully managed trading for institutions such as Bank of America and RBS before pursuing his long-held ambition to work in football management. This diverse background provided him with unique insights into risk management, communication, and team leadership, which he later applied to his coaching philosophy.

Warburton began his coaching journey in academy football at Watford in 2006, rising to Academy Manager. His dedication to youth development was further exemplified by his instrumental role in launching the NextGen Series, an Under-19 club cup competition that involved top European clubs and served as a precursor to the UEFA Youth League. He transitioned into senior management with Brentford, leading them to promotion from League One to the Championship in the 2013–14 season and achieving their best second-tier finish in 80 years. This success demonstrated his ability to build competitive teams and foster a winning culture.

His managerial career continued with significant stints at Rangers FC from 2015 to 2017, where he secured the Scottish Championship title and the Scottish Challenge Cup, and at Nottingham Forest in 2017. He then managed Queens Park Rangers from 2019 to 2022. Most recently, Warburton served as an Assistant Manager at West Ham United, contributing to their UEFA Europa Conference League victory in 2023. In March 2025, he was appointed as the first Sporting Director and Head of Soccer for Sporting Club Jacksonville, a new role that encompasses leading both men’s and women’s professional and pre-professional teams, as well as developing a professional soccer academy for the USL Super League and USL Championship.
