Dimitrios Skoumpakis

Dimitrios Skoumpakis was born on December 18, 1998, in Chania, Greece. He plays as a center back in water polo, known for his right-handed throw. Skoumpakis began his professional career with Glyfada, playing for them from 2016 to 2018. Following this, he joined Olympiacos, a prominent Greek club, where he played for three seasons from 2018 to 2021. During his time with Olympiacos, the team achieved significant success, including winning the Greek Championship three consecutive times (2018–19, 2019–20, 2020–21) and the Greek Cup in the same seasons. He also contributed to two Greek Super Cup victories in 2018 and 2019. In 2019, Olympiacos was also the runner-up in the LEN Champions League.

Skoumpakis’ career progressed with a move to Vouliagmeni for the 2021–2022 season. He then transitioned to VK Novi Beograd, playing for the Serbian team from 2022 to 2025. With Novi Beograd, he experienced further international club success, being a runner-up in the LEN Champions League in both the 2022–23 and 2024–25 seasons. He also helped the team secure the Serbian Championship in 2022–23, the Adriatic League in 2023–24, and the Serbian Cup in both 2023–24 and 2024–2025. In 2025, Skoumpakis returned to Greece, joining Panathinaikos on a two-year contract with an option for an additional year.

On the international stage, Dimitrios Skoumpakis has been a key member of the Greek national water polo team. He earned a gold medal at the Youth World Championship in 2017 in Belgrade. In 2018, he secured a silver medal at the Mediterranean Games in Tarragona. His most notable national team achievement came at the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics, where he won a silver medal. Skoumpakis also contributed to a bronze medal at the 2022 World Aquatics Championships in Budapest and a silver medal at the 2023 World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka. In 2025, he received a bronze medal at the World Aquatics Championships in Singapore. His individual accolades include being named the Greek Championship Best Defender three times (2019–20, 2020–21, 2021–22) and the Adriatic League Best Defender in 2023–24.
