Marshall Williams is a Canadian actor currently best known for his role as Spencer Porter in the sixth and final season of Glee, the multi-award-winning musical comedy-drama series that became a huge hit during the early 2010s. He subsequently played handyman drifter Sam Tremblay in the Hallmark Channel family drama series When Hope Calls, a spin-off of the long-running drama, When Calls the Heart. He has also recently appeared in several television movies.
Williams was born in 1989 in Winnipeg. His journey towards television fame began in his late teens when he twice appeared as a contestant on Canadian Idol. He wasn’t successful at either attempt, but he refused to give up, and he got his first proper role in 2010, appearing as himself in an episode of High Society, a New York-based reality show based around Real Housewives of New York City star, Tinsley Mortimer. After a series of one-off roles in television films and series, he appeared in the 2014 Disney television movie, How to Build a Better Boy, which was nominated for two awards.
The following year, Williams got his well-earned breakthrough role with Glee, a show that helped to define the first half of the 2010s. It also brought Williams’ acting and performing skills to their biggest audience yet. He has been busy ever since, including a starring role in the 2019 musical film Stand!, which is set during the 1919 Winnipeg Strike. It’s only a matter of time until he lands his next major role.
