Martin Gramatica

Martin Gramatica was born on November 27, 1975, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, before his family relocated to LaBelle, Florida, when he was nine. Initially focused on soccer, Gramatica’s kicking ability caught the attention of his high school football coach, leading him to try out as a kicker in his senior year. He then accepted a football scholarship to Kansas State University. During his college career spanning 1994 to 1998, with a medical redshirt in 1996 due to a torn ACL, he became the most decorated kicker in Wildcat history. He earned the Lou Groza Award in 1997 and twice received All-American honors. Gramatica holds the NCAA record for scoring by a kicker in a single season with 135 points in 1998 and famously kicked a 65-yard field goal without a tee, the fourth-longest in NCAA history. His collegiate success earned him the nickname “Automatica” and induction into Kansas State’s Ring of Honor in 2008, the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame in 2013, and the Kansas State Athletics Hall of Fame in 2016.

Gramatica was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the third round of the 1999 NFL Draft. With the Buccaneers, he set franchise records for points in a season in 1999 (106 points) and 2000 (126 points). He earned a Pro Bowl selection in 2000 and was a key member of the Super Bowl XXXVII championship team in 2002, marking him as the first Argentine-born player to participate in the Super Bowl. Following his tenure with the Buccaneers, he played for the Indianapolis Colts (2004, 2006), Dallas Cowboys (2006–2007), and New Orleans Saints (2007–2008). His professional career included notable performances, such as game-winning kicks for the Cowboys, despite later struggles with injuries. After his retirement from the NFL, Gramatica transitioned into other ventures. He currently serves as the head coach for the Tampa Bay Strikers in the National Indoor Soccer League, leveraging his sports background in a new leadership role.
