Mary Chieffo is an American actress best known for her role in Star Trek: Discovery. She’s also starred in TV shorts and television movies.
Chieffo was always interested in acting, and even as a baby had a role in a short film called Making Sandwiches. When she was growing up she starred in local productions and school plays, and attended Shakespeare camp where she had the chance to perform in numerous plays and classic stage shows. She started to land small parts in shorts and television shows including Jack and Janet Save the Planet, Girls! Girls! Girls! and The Perfect Fit throughout her twenties. Her breakout role came in 2017 when she was cast in Star Trek: Discovery, a web series on CBS All Access which is the seventh in the Star Trek franchise. She worked alongside former classmate Mary Wiseman, who she studied with when she was at college at the Juilliard School. For Chieffo this was her first high profile, recurring role and she played L’Rell, a Klingon warrior who later becomes leader of the Klingon Empire. Having already starred in the show for two years, she will appear again throughout the upcoming third season, and the release is hotly anticipated among fans.
