Matt Adams, known as “Big City” for his impressive stature and power-hitting ability, is a former professional baseball first baseman who made significant contributions to Major League Baseball (MLB) teams including the St. Louis Cardinals, Atlanta Braves, Washington Nationals, and Colorado Rockies. Drafted by the Cardinals in the 23rd round of the 2009 MLB draft from Slippery Rock University, Adams quickly showcased his talent in the minor leagues, earning accolades such as the Texas League Most Valuable Player in 2011 and the Cardinals Minor League Player of the Year. His minor league success set the stage for his MLB debut in 2012.
In his rookie season with the Cardinals in 2013, Adams made an immediate impact, hitting 17 home runs in just 296 at-bats, which ranked him among the top rookies in franchise history. His ability to perform under pressure was highlighted during the 2014 postseason when he hit a crucial three-run homer against Clayton Kershaw in the NLDS, helping the Cardinals secure a victory.
